Fallout 4 Update Broke My Script Extender! How to Fix It

ooookkkkaaayyyy... first order of business is to calm the hell down.

The reason the Update broke your script extender is because each update makes changes to the Fallout.exe and it is going to happen everytime the game updates updates because of Creation Club. Side Note if your are using SKSE64 for Skyrim Special Edition as well this SAME problem is going to effect you and you are going want to learn to do this now.

Unless you take steps to prevent it in the future.

If your script extender is already broken you will have to wait for F4SE to update on Silverlock.org then get the updated version. But I mentioned how to prevent it in the future right?

So lets get some important stuff done
First log into Steam then go to the Library Tab. Now find Fallout 4 and right click on the game and choose Properties in the popout menu. In the Properties Window that appears click on the Updates Tab and set yours to look like the following image. (Note I have the Steam Cloud turned off but you can have that on if you want) The important part is to set the game so it ONLY updates when you use the Steam Launcher

As you use the F4SE loader through your Mod Manager Program, you avoid the game updating everytime there is an update available. As you can see from the above image at the time of this writing both My Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition are telling Me that updates are required.

No sorry Todd Howard it is NOT required to update the game because you want to push more of the Creation Club Paid Mod Scam on the players on PC. Good try though!

The next step is once you have gotten the updated version of F4SE and the updated versions of any mods which required it you are now ready to fix the problem. First check in game to ensure that everything is working correctly. Everything good? Cool

Now go into your Fallout 4 Game Folder. This is located in SteamLibrary>steamapps>common>Fallout 4 on which ever drive you have Fallout 4 installed.
Make a folder in your Fallout 4 Game Folder entitled Fallout 4 Backup EXE

Next scroll down in the game folder until you find the Fallout4.exe (not the Fallout4Launcher!) you can tell the Fallout4.exe mainly by its size of 65mb. Right click and copy the Fallout4.exe

Scroll back up and open the new folder you made "Fallout 4 Backup EXE" right click and paste the Fallout 4 exe program into that folder. This is your backup for use later.

Now Fallout 4 and Script Extender was working along with any mods you had to update, correct?

Everytime there is an update available up NOT have to download it (no matter what Steam says) but if on the off chance you accidentally mess up and update Fallout 4 anyhow don't freak out if the game wont start because F4SE is popping the window of "Screw You"

All you need to do is go to that Backup folder copy the Fallout4.exe that is there and pastee it into your Game Folder and overwrite the program when your computer asks to.

The only drawback to this I have found is that if you install a new mod which requires a newer version of F4SE than you are running, you will have to update the game by using the Steam Launcher and repeat the entire process with updating your mods and F4SE.

I pretty much have a set load order when to comes to F4SE related mods so I only needed to do this once.
